Ohio Region Leaders of Promise Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Alpha of Ohio Alumni Association as a regional scholarship based on the international headquarters Leaders of Promise Scholarship. It is to recognize outstanding members who have shown leadership within Phi Theta Kappa, whether at the chapter, regional, &/or international level and will continue to do so. One $500.00 scholarship will be awarded each year at regional convention in a lump sum.

Eligibility:

A student must be an active member in a chapter within the Ohio Region and currently enrolled in a community college at the time of the application.
Students must possess a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA out of a possible 4.0 at the time of application on all college-level course work.
Part-time, full-time, and international students are eligible to apply.
Students who have completed 36 semester hours or less (or 54 quarter hours or less) of college-level course work by January 31st [of the year of award] are eligible to apply. If the student has not been enrolled for five consecutive years and has requested academic clemency from the institution in which they are enrolled, those previously earned grades/credits will not be counted toward the maximum of 36 (or 54 hours).
Students must enroll exclusively at a community college in an associate degree seeking program for the next fall term.
Students must attend the Ohio Region Awards Convention in order to be selected and receive the award.

Requirements:

The applicant must write a 500-word essay on the following question:
“How has your Phi Theta Kappa experience enhanced you leadership skills and impacted your personal development?”
The applicant must write a 250-word essay on each of the following questions:
1. “Discuss one Phi Theta Kappa event that you had a significant role in.”
2. “What are your plans for this scholarship if you are selected?”

Submission Deadline:

Applications and essays are to be completed and sent (with transcript) to the Regional Coordinator two weeks prior to the Ohio Region Awards Convention.
